I've had a few people ask me if I knew how the CCHA was going to schedule for 11 teams, since they couldn't use their traditional rivalry clusters.

Here is the response I got from the CCHA Office:

From the CCHA Office:

The CCHA does have a conference schedule for the 2010-11 season. However, a scheduling system for beyond next season has not been finalized the CCHA Council, the decision making body that will ultimately approve it. Because there is an odd (11) number of teams, the ‘cluster’ system that was previously used is no longer manageable.

For next season, the three Big Ten schools along with Alaska and Ferris will play one another four times (16 games) and play the remaining six schools twice (12 games) for a total of 28.

BGSU, LSSU, MIA, NMU, ND and WMU will all play two games each against the Big Ten schools along with Alaska and Ferris (10 games).

This group of six is further broken down into the following pairs that only play another two times (two games). They play the remaining four teams four times (16 games).

BGSU/WMU

LSSU/ND

MIA/NMU

My first question was can teams play home & home games, as has been done in the past by the CCHA schools that were close by (i.e. MSU/WMU, UM/WMU, etc..)

Further to your first question, teams are able to make changes by mutual consent to the approved schedule. Therefore, MSU and WMU could play a home-and-home as long as the balance of home/away games is not upset. For example, they would need to get Bowling Green or Notre Dame involved to play home/homes too.
